IPAF MEWP Operator Training Course
Description
The IPAF MEWP Operator Training is an E-Learning Theory course. Students who take this course will still be required to complete a practical exam. Students should allow 2-3 hours for their online training which must be taken on a computer/laptop or tablet with a camera. This course cannot be completed on a smartphone. It is vital that the device has a camera, as IPAF will use facial recognition to ensure identification throughout the course and test.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION – The correct student email address MUST be supplied at the time of booking for e-learning. The IPAF link will NOT work if the registration email is forwarded to a different email address.
This course is designed for anyone who operates a Mobile Elevated Work Platform (MEWP), such as scissor lifts or boom lifts.

The IPAF MEWP Operator with e-learning theory will cover the following topics:
- Limitations of MEWPS
- Controls, Safety Devices and Warning Alarms
- Routine Inspection and Servicing Requirements
- Preparation for Work on a MEWP
- Ground and Site Conditions
- Safe Operating Techniques
- Emergency Lowering Procedures
- Manufacturers Instruction Manuals
- Fall Arrest/Restraint Equipment
- Practical Operating Test
- Multiple Choice Test Paper
Assessment
Candidates will undertake their theory via e-learning (which will take around 2-3 hours). To receive the PAL card students must also take the practical assessment at an approved training center venue.
Suggested Progression
Part 46 Refresher training will be required on an annual basis.

The IPAF Operator 3a & 3b e-learning course is designed for anyone who use Cherry Pickers and Scissor Lifts.
